Antiviral medication does not make the recovery from the symptom quicker but shortens the period as well when a person can infect others, spreading the virus. Do not forget that medicines will not make the person cured and sores can appear in the future again. As mentioned above, in spite of the fact that the sores have been eliminated the virus stays in the organism of the person. The symptoms will return when caused by definite conditions. Among conditions which activate herpes sores are ultraviolet rays of the sun, regular menstruation and stress.

Antiviral medication is possible for pregnant women too. For example, acyclovir taken orally can help women expecting a baby. She can take the medication at any time of pregnancy, including the first trimester. In the last month of pregnancy acyclovir is used to put away the need for caesarian section delivery lowering the risk of a herpes outbreak during delivery.
