  • Flavonoids: viceni, blucuronide, and n kaempferol.
  • Volatile oil, which includes mostly carvone, as well as x-pinene, dihydrocarvone, carveole, limonene, myristicin, a- and b-phellandrene, anethole, eugenol.
  • Xanthone derivates, like dillanoside.
  • Coumarins, including umbelliferone, scopoletin, bergapten, esculetin.
  • Other: fixed oil, triterpenes, protein, and phenolic acids.

Used For: The herb is known to treat flatulence, relieve spasms, inflammations; induce lactation, calm the nervous system, promote urination, and cure stomach conditions.

Dill is successfully used for meteorism and colic by which this condition is commonly accompanied. It may be safely applied for flatulence and colic in infants. To make the breath pleasant or improve its people chew the seeds.

Dill tea, aided by white wine or water, is efficiently employed for stomach complaints. Dill may also be applied to increase appetite, and seed decoction can be applied for sleeplessness and abdominal cramps associated with flatulence. Breastfeeding women can take dill to induce excessive lactation, especially if mixed with caraway, fennel, coriander, and anise.

Additional Info: Dill belongs to annuals and is a popular specially raised spice, which can also be met in Europe and in North America. The stem is hollow and may reach up to 3 feet in height. It is covered with blue spots and green to white stripes. The leaves are complex, featuring filiform leaflets, and are characterized by green color. Flowers grow in complex umbels which blossom from midsummer to early autumn, as a result of which dill ovate-shaped seeds appear.

Preparation and Intake: To prepare an infusion, take 1-2 teaspoons of mildly pounded seeds for 250 ml of boiling water and steep for ten to fifteen minutes. To relieve flatulence, use at a dose of one cup before food intake. In form of tincture the herb is applied at a dose of 1-2 ml thrice per day.
