Additional Info: Silajit forms a mass of bituminous agent, which is produced by rock crevices of Nepal and the lower Himalayas at hot temperature. It is constituted of gummy complex of dark red color, in addition to vegetable organic substance, earthy matter, and vegetable fibers.

Silajit is characterized by bitter content. Its odor is similar to cow’s urine. The substance is used by monkeys to treat a variety of health conditions. Due to this reason they manage to preserve health.

Silajit comes in four different types:

  • Brown colored, or iron Silajit
  • Blue colored, or Copper Silajit
  • White colored, or Silver Silajit
  • Red colored, or Gold Silajit

Black Silajit is most commonly used for medical purposes.

Used For: The substance is known to boost metabolic rates, relieve pains, inflammations, treat bacterial infections, improve sexual libido, promote bile production and movement, induce urination, promote expectoration, relieve bowel infections, treat constipation, rejuvenate the body and improve respiratory system activity.

The range of conditions in which Mineral Pitch is applied includes parasites, menstrual disorders, skin conditions, sexual debility, obesity, kidney conditions, jaundice, insanity, hemorrhoids, gall stones, epilepsy, edema, dysuria, diabetes, cystitis, and asthma.

According to Charaka, the substance can be applied for a wide range of health conditions, and almost any of them can be cured with its aid. As stated by “Medicinal Plants of India” authors, N. Mohanan and GKN Nair, Silajit is particularly beneficial for treating diabetes and genito-urinary conditions. It can be applied to treat anuria, anasacra, adiposity, piles, digestive conditions, worms, dyspepsia, spleen enlargement, jaundice, and gallbladder stones. Silajit can be used for nervous conditions, insanity, epilepsy, neaurasthenia, hysteria, bladder and renal calculi, and renal stones. The substance is beneficial for bone fractures, asthma, recurrent bronchitis, biliary congestion, anorexia, anaemia, elephantiasis, eczema, leprosy, phtistis, tuberculosis, scrofula, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea and so on. Silajit is highly helpful in relieve several health conditions, induced by diabetes.

Additionally, Silajit can be used to relieve body weakness and anemia. It induces labor pains and helps give birth to a baby. It can be applied to treat bacterial skin infections, and made into paste it is applied topically to treat aching joints and paralysis.

Preparation and Intake: Plant powder is used with milk at a dose of one ounce per day for severe conditions. In other cases Silajit is taken at a dose of a quarter to a teaspoon thrice per day.

Safety: Warning! In case of high uric acid concentration in urine, or conditions, accompanied by fevers, the herb should be avoided.
